Bosham Triumph In Dennis Probee Memorial Cup

Bosham have won the inaugural Dennis Probee Memorial Cup, defeating a Sussex XI 4-3 on penalties, after the scores were tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Credit to Bosham boss, Andy Probee for rallying around and using his little black book of football contacts to get the game on at short-notice.

The match was created in lieu of Faygate United pulling out of the original Premier Division fixture, but perhaps fitting that it enabled Bosham to pay their respects to Vice President, Dennis Probee - who sadly passed away last week, aged 89.

We thank the players - sourced from clubs including Burgess Hill Town, Pagham, Chichester City, Sidlesham, and Boxgrove - who gave up their time at short notice - and supporters who came along to make the evening such a success, in paying homage to a man who did so much for football in Sussex.

Bosham's goals came from Bradley Miles and Matt Docherty, while Jake Lafferty and Tom Sandell replied for the Sussex XI.

Dennis is also set to be remembered within Sussex County FA Chairman, Mathew Major's speech ahead of the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup Final at the Amex on Sunday, May 18, in front of 200 guests.

Bosham now await confirmation of a 'double' success, once the West Sussex League management committee have confirmed that Faygate's non-appearance for the final League game will give the Robins the three points to claim the Premier Division title.

Once we have more news on this matter, we will advise on this website and via Twitter.

* Dennis's funeral will take place at Porchester Crematorium on Thursday, June 5.
