Tony Hancok our first team manager told us how the charity operated and why he wanted to support them.
My Wife Julie works on Thorney Island and one of her lovely colleagues, a West African lady called Jalika and her Husband, a serving Soldier, collect clothing for a charity to send out to Africa for those less fortunate.
The beauty of the charity, is that they distribute direct to those that need it most, so the street sellers do not get their hands on the donations, nor is there any fighting over it.
My wife would often give Jalika a bag of clothing for the charity and when I was sorting all the kits out at the club during lockdown last Summer to try and keep busy as ever, I thought it would be a good idea to send out the decent old kits that were no longer used and just kicking around the club gathering dust and put them to good use.
I took the kits to Jalika and she arranged to get them sent out to Gambia. Jalika and her Husband actually pay for the shipments themselves out of their own pocket to ensure they get there safely and miss out the street traders!
After lockdown, they sent the kits, along with some football medals and cups I had at home, out to Sukuta in Gambia, where they were distributed to the group of young lads in the photos, a team calling themselves Soccer Stars. You can see how pleased and happy they were with the kits and all I asked in return was a few photos of the lads wearing the Bosham FC kits, so here you go!
A little something positive to help lift spirits in the global pandemic!
