Bosham Turn On Style Against Cowfold
By Admin .
A terrific second half display from the Robins saw off a determined effort from Cowfold, and complete the League double over their title rivals.
Leading goal scorer Kieran Hartley was again at the heart of the play being a constant menace and bagging a brace to boot leaving the home fans to go home happy and content following another great day at Walton Lane.
The match started at a frenetic pace with the blues of Cowfold aiming to get themselves a goal as early as possible to set their stall out for the rest of the match.
Bosham met them head on and did well to stem threatening moments from the likes of Dan Smith and Mark Passfield. With Nick Edgington restored to the back line and Bradley Miles back after injury, Bosham looked much more assured on the ball and the midfield was a tight unit again.
However the reds were rocked after only ten minutes when the visitors got their noses in front after Smith used his predatory skills to give Cowfold the lead.
Ben Tucker was given too much time and space wide right and produced a very dangerous cross into the heart of the Bosham area and Smith rose powerfully to head home passed Simon Hasted.
The home support was stunned and Bosham needed to regroup now that the blues had their tails up. As time went by Bosham began to show more aggressive desire to get back on terms and Neil Redman was first to go close with a determined effort which keeper, Mat Beck did well to keep out.
Confidence within the reds was growing and at times Cowfold were certainly riding their luck as Miles probed and Dave Storey along with Hartley bore down on the Cowfold area with ever increasing regularity. It seemed that Bosham surely would level up before the break but the blues held out.
However, after half-time, a fifteen minute master class from Bosham wrenched the game firmly from Cowfold turning the match completely on its head.
Just minutes had passed when Hartley was cynically upended in the box and referee, Andrew Goddard pointed to the spot. Hartley got up and slotted home from twelve yards although Beck got a strong had to the effort but the pace saw it nestle in the corner of the net.
Next Ryan Lancaster showed what an improved player he is as Bosham went in front for the first time. Hartley streaked clear down the right, following a sublime piece of control and then fed Lancaster in the box who turned and volleyed home as defenders stood and watched in bewilderment as the ball flew into the back of the net.
Storey was next to get his name on the score sheet with a sumptuous finish just after the hour, thanks to a lovely through ball from Matt Docherty.
Bosham were flying and Cowfold looked shell shocked. Worse was to follow for last season’s champions as Hartley made it four, finishing well after clinically robbing Passfield who was caught dawdling and made to rue his mistake in the most ruthless of fashions.
Bosham continued to dominate in the rest of the match and in the final minutes Miles added a fifth to put the icing on the cake at the end of a terrific second half for the Robins.
